The Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine defines addiction to be a bio-psycho-social and spiritual disease of the brain that is chronic, progressive, relapsing and fatal. It is characterized by loss of control over the use of a drug including alcohol (and/or behaviour), a pre-occupation with its continued use (and/or engagement in the behaviour) despite adverse physical, psychological and social consequences.
The Treatment TEAM at TOWTC is highly trained to assist and to guide clients afflicted with the disease of addiction to recover in all these areas. The TEAM is comprised of respectful, deeply committed and passionate physicians, psychologists, clinicians, family therapists, and support/recovery staff.
Clients who are ready to enroll immediately into one of our programs may do so directly although they will still be given a full assessment upon admission to ensure the appropriateness of the treatment program desired.
We encourage a balanced living approach to recovery, which emphasizes regular self-care, stress reduction with exercise, stretching/yoga, mindfulness meditation, recovery supporting literature, and therapies for enhanced internal tranquility as a means to support attention span and information retention as part of a clinically proven cognitive functioning repair process. Recognizing that addiction is also a disease that affects the entire family, we have qualified clinicians to assist the client and their families.
After-Care is critical in sustaining sobriety; in conjunction with their primary clinician, our clients’ will create detailed relapse prevention and follow up plans as part of their treatment process.
At TOWTC, we understand the importance of making the decision to seek treatment for yourself or a loved one. We honor your courage with our own integrity; often lives depend upon that integrity. At TOWTC, we view treatment as a holistic process that involves your mind, your body and most importantly your spirit.
Our mission is to effectively treat individuals by using successful evidence based methods in conjunction with time-tested support.
